    Cockatiel breeding

I have a cockatiel pair since one year and the pair is confirmed. Both mating and sit in the box regularly but not lying eggs. Feed include customized seed mix, black chana, vegetables, fruit etc.

Cage is also appropriate size that 4*2 feet.

I wish to know what is the problem and how to solve this.

    Re: Cockatiel breeding

Dear recommended cage size for cockatiels breeding is minimum 20"x20"x24" and maximum 24"x24"x26"
I think your birds are busy in flying and playing instead of Breeding.
Please try the recommended cage size.
Hope you find the solution, but it a suggestion not a final solution may be there will be an other problem too.
    Seiners will guide you more.
    Regards

    Re: Cockatiel breeding

I have been breeding cockateils for last 2 years. First of all, the bigger the cage, the better it is. Recommended means the cage has to be atleast this size. Now the issue is why they are not breeding ? Given the information, your pair is ready to breed, for how long they have been sitting in the box ? For how long have you seen them mating ? Since 1 year ? I dont think so that would be the case. To breed any parrot there are key things you need to keep in mind.

    1. Good diet - For cockateils its a good seed mix, regular vegetables that include fresh beans, dhanya, podina, gajar ko crush kar k dena. This should be in diet on weekly basis, meaning on day 1, dhanya, on day 2 corn, on day 3 podina, on day 4 gajar likewise.

    2. Cleanliness - You need to wash both food and water bowls daily and cage for minimum weekly. If you want long time success, you cannot ignore this.

    3. Patience - This is what is not present with most people, especially those do this for business.

    Now answering your questions.

    1. You need to make sure there is 3 inch bedding in nest box and nest box is dark from inside, there should be no light entering it or your birds will be reluctant to sit in.

    2. You need to make sure that as its breeding season, you are giving them alot of soft foods and showing them once in a week. Soft food could be boiled/non boiled corn. Sprouts.

    3. Where is your cage ? Is its in a place where there is a lot of disturbance ?

    4. How many pairs you have ?

    5. Have a look at channel where I have discussed these issues in detail: www.YouTube.com/TheBirdMan

    Re: Cockatiel breeding

If not laying since long, whatever is the diet, female seems faulty/aged. If eggs are not fertile then mostly male is faulty/aged.

We may not realize that a better solution or trade-off is possible until we see it.
